Why Put Effort Into Your Home?

why put effort into your home?3. She Loves Happy Lifestyle Blog_edited-1

Ever since James and I were dating I started thinking about what our home would be like once we got married. I had only ever lived with my parents so the idea of having my very own bedroom, kitchen, bathroom , AND living room to decorate sounded like heaven to me. Right from the get-go I knew I wanted to make putting effort mentally, physically, and financially into our home a top priority.

why put effort into your home. She Loves Happy Lifestyle BlogI remember when my sisters and I were little my mom would always make us clean up the house before dad got home from work. I would ask her why it was such a big deal and she would always say, “Because we want dad to come home from a stressful day at work to a nice clean house so he can relax.”
This makes so much sense to me now which is why I try hard to do the same for James. The last thing I want is for him to walk in from having a hard day and see the couch cushions in a pile on the floor, the table covered in sandwich crumbs, and a sink full of dishes. I want him to look forward to coming home because he knows that it’s a calm atmosphere where he gets to unwind from the day and spend time with his loving, amazing, hard working wife.

IMG_2673I believe that even the smallest details effect the mood in your house. Especially if you are as detail-oriented as me. I want to be able sit on my couch with a cup of coffee, my jams playing in the background and not look up and think, “ugh, that entertainment center is so ugly. Geez Louise, that wall is naked. Oh good heavens, I need new curtains.” That does not sound very tranquil. It so much more satisfying to look and see all the different projects you’ve worked so hard on become a part of making your home uniquely yours.

IMG_2671One of the things I was most excited about with having my very own house was getting to have people over all the time and be the hostess. There are peoples houses that I love going to because they love their house. I want people to feel at home when they come over and look forward to seeing what new projects we’ve finished. I want them to feel welcome to grab a blanket out of the basket without asking and curl up on the couch. That comes from having an open, relaxing atmosphere in your home that you create and a major part of that is how you decorate.
You want to create a space that reflects you, and if applicable, your spouse and you as a couple. People {should} feel relaxed and comfortable around you so if your home is a reflection of you, people in turn will be comfortable.

Why put effort into your home?2 She Loves Happy Lifestyle BlogPutting forth effort doesn’t necessarily mean spending a ton of money. It’s taking the time to look around and consider, “do I love my house? What can I do to make my home reflect me?” It could even be a little rearranging of furniture to give your home a fresh look. All it takes is a little thinking and motivation.
